Featured Recipe: Orange Pecan Pull Apart Rolls
Bring on the Holidays!
Here is a yummy recipe that will be a great crowd pleaser. If you love nuts like our family, you will love these Orange Pecan Pull-Apart Rolls. For this recipe I had almost everything I needed on hand. I had my hubby pick up some oranges on the way home from work and I was ready to make a yummy dessert/breakfast item.
I took some dinner rolls out of the freezer and put 14 in a bag and placed them in the fridge the night before. This gave the rolls the change to defrost but not rise. After dinner the next day, I took the rolls out of the fridge. I used my kitchen shears to cut the rolls in half and placed them in 9X13 pan that I had sprayed with cooking spray. I placed the rolls into 4 rows length wise with 7 of the cut rolls in each row.

I covered the rolls with plastic wrap that I sprayed with cooking spray and let them rise until there was almost no space between the rolls. This is when we finished all the evening things we have to do as a family... i.e. clean the kitchen, make the lunches, do homework, do reading, get all the papers signed for school, find the library books and so forth. Once the rolls had risen, I then started on my other ingredients. I zested the orange...

...and chopped the pecans. (Luckily I had bought a big bag at Costco for making Pecan Pies for Thanksgiving.)

I then combined the other ingredients: brown sugar, melted butter, and one beaten egg with the pecans and orange zest.

I stirred this all together and then spread the mixture over the risen rolls.

I then covered the rolls again to let them finish rising. This is when we did our bed time routine. Do any of you Mom's and Dad's have the "I can not go to bed with out this routine" children? Well we do, so the little ones feel they can not go to bed without certain rituals.
Then once 2 out of 3 kids were in bed, my rolls had risen and were ready to be baked for 15-20 minutes. My son wanted to help juice the orange that we zested so I let him squeeze the juice out of the orange for the orange juice.

I combined a cup of powdered sugar, melted butter, more fresh squeezed orange juice and some vanilla (I found some clear vanilla I really like as it does not change the color of the icing).

I stirred the frosting all together and when the beautiful pecan rolls came out of the oven all golden brown and Nutty (like our family), I drizzled the yummy glaze over these beautiful rolls.

I had an early morning PTA meeting at the school with our amazing Principal and decided this would be a great place to share some of these yummy rolls. They were a great hit and everyone wanted the recipe. So you see, they are a real crowd pleaser. Add this recipe to your Holiday baking and there will be smiles all around. Happy Baking!
